Backyard Treasure Hunt

The weather is really warming up and
it's a great time to go outside for a treasure hunt!

You won't need much more than a few things you already have in the house... a paper bag and some markers.

You can create any theme you like based upon your child's interests.
We made a pirate map for a HUGE  pirate fan.
The pictures and items we selected for the map and treasure hunt reflect this interest.

First cut out a section from a paper bag.
There is no set size- just cut a size you like. We used half of the bag.
Wad the paper bag section into a ball and soak in water. Squeeze excess water and lay flat to dry.

Aaaah. Here is your blank palette.

First we collected the items we wanted for our treasure hunt.
Then we drew their likenesses on the map.

Have an adult or older child hide the items using the map as a guide.
Happy Treasure Hunting!

Here is our bag of loot.....

The map above works well for a treasure hunt in a fixed location. If you want to encourage children on a walk......use the map below. You can lay the items out ahead of time, or have an adult or older child run ahead and place the items on the trail. The last method works well when you need to gauge how soon the next item should come.
