Dirt and Worm Paintings

We didn't actually use dirt and worms but it sure looks like the real thing!
Painting "dirt" with coffee was a very high interest activity for our young artist.

You will need:
dried coffee grounds
brown paint
paint brush
thick art paper
pink yarn

For this painting activity we dumped our coffee grounds from one pot out on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. It took a day or two to dry.
We only used about 1/4 of the grounds placing in a paper bowl. We squirted brown paper over the grounds but did not mix. The artist then took over.

When the artist felt he was done, we cut pieces of pink yarn. We used 100% cotton and ours was variegated which allowed the worms to look slightly different as they are in nature.

Press the yarn "worms" into the wet paint. When they dry they will be stuck on the page.
