Painting with Salt

Dark cool blues and bright clear blues remind us of beautiful Lake Tahoe.
Salt gives the pictures sparkle and shine

just the way the lake shines in the sunlight.
You will need:
Art paper
Paint (we used 4 hues of blue and one brown)
Salt

Paint an object.
In these pictures, one artist painted fish

and the other painted two flying dragonflies.

When the paint is still wet scatter a few pinches of salt on top
 to look like scales.
The artists experimented using different grains of salt.

To make a picture of splashy raindrops, cover your paper with water then dip a brush in runny paint and splatter it on top. Prop up the paper and allow it to drip dry.

Making waves: To paint waves draw a rippling pattern in blue and white wax crayons and then brush paint over the top.

Create lakes and bodies of water as blue as Lake Tahoe and add some fish.

This is a great opportunity to talk about how some bodies of water have salt water and others don't.
