Family Picture Cube

This project was conceived by Amy Broadhurst, Wellness Coordinator for Alpine County Behavioral Health. Thanks Amy!

You will need:
empty square tissue box
contact paper or packing tape
photos of family members
rattle or noisemaker for inside the box (optional)

To create an interesting sound with added safety, place a baby rattle or baby toy into the box. If the box breaks there is no danger of small items breaking out. We used a Fisher-Price Roll-A-Sounds toy.

Attach photos of family members to each of the 6 sides using clear packing tape or clear contact paper.
4 sides are about 4.25" x 5" and 2 sides are 4.25" x 4.25".

Child Care Providers:
If making this item for a group setting, attach high contrast black and white images or images of human faces- both which are visually appealing to babies.

You could also create a family cube for each baby in your care with the help of parents.
As the babies grow into toddlers they can stack the family blocks, extending the use of these items over time----in which case you may want to omit placing a rattle inside.
Without the noise item, these cubes would also make a great transitional item for nap time.
