In this post we see how one child attempts to recreate a masterpiece.
Head the library for a book of famous art pieces or visit your local museum.
Have children find a piece that "speaks" to them. Talk about the piece, learn about the artist and their life, guess what might have inspired the artist to make the piece, discover the materials they used.
If your child is interested, have them "recreate" their favorite piece with their own twist.
Inspired by "Children on the Beach" painting from Mary Cassat a young child attempted to reproduce it.
Mom helped her trace the children.
She cut around the drawing and painted using different colors than in the original artwork for the children's dresses.
She used the back of her paint brush to outline the bucket and shovel the children used to play with.
Once painted and dry the children were glued on the beach.

This art comes from
a children's book "Make Van Gogh's Bed" by Julie Appel & AmyGuglielmo.
The text that goes along
the art goes as follow:
We've seen so much along
the way.
Now it's time to dig and
play.
Dipping toes and sandy
feet,
a purple bay, and
friends to meet.
Makes us long for a warm summer day at the beach:)
