Chinese New Year Dragons

dragon crafts for kids

You will need:
a 'stamp' to create a flower shape (We used endive- celery or potato would work well)
a 'stamp" for the center of the flower (We used a cork)
black, red and gold paint
pencil
paint brush

For the dragon have the children draw a horizontal or vertical line. Horizontal lines are great for practicing crossing mid-line. Create a curvy line with your pencil over and under the horizontal straight line. Or in the case of a vertical line, left and right. Paint the curved line with black paint. Add detailed lines with black paint to create dragon scales. You can erase your pencil marks after your painting dries.

Decorate around the dragon using your larger stamp and gold paint for the flower and your cork and red paint for the center of the flower. For this activity we cut the top of the cork into a triangle and added a red garland to complement the flowers.

Happy New Year!
And a shout out to those special people born in the Year of the Dragon
