Recently in our area we experienced a huge forest fire in our area....the Washington Fire, burning nearly 18,000 acres. After the firefighters had a hold on the fire and residents felt a bit safer they expressed their gratitude with a great deal of signs. While many were on paper (butcher paper, paperboard, foam board and cardboard) a few residents used less typical materials for their signs.

Many acclaimed artist use media other than paper or canvas. They paint on metal, wood. plastic, glass, mirrors, stone, tile, found objects, fabric and other materials.
The next time a child asked to paint we offered fabric rather than paper which was readily accepted.
We had fabric squares on hand from a previous activity. If you don't have fabric around, use any unique material you do have for a novel painting surface.
Secure the fabric to the painting surface.
Hang art to dry.
Looks great on both sides!
Display by hanging on the wall or enjoy in a more utilitarian way.
Rocks make great painting surfaces too!
