Decorating Pumpkins, Polaroids & Pizzas

This week for play group we decorated pumpkins, had Polaroids taken, and enjoyed mummy pizzas.
Mummy pizzas were made by laying a torn strips of string cheese horizontally across a small piece of dough with sauce and adding 2 olive slices for eyes. We also had black and orange salad with cantaloupe and blackberries and black (really purple) and orange roasted carrots. Incidentally, if you are wondering where we found Polaroid film, Alpine County Behavioral Health located & purchased some manufactured by The Impossible Project. We did find it took the better part of an hour to develop though....

We went through our craft cabinet and loaded trays up with some collage items. You will need a lot of glue bottles.
We had googly eyes, large sequins, jewels, cotton balls, colored masking tape, feathers, chalk makers (all favorites). We also provided various types of ribbon, scissors, pipe cleaners, self adhesive foam, punched papers in various shapes and colors, craft pom poms, buttons, cellophane, stickers and tissue paper squares and liquid starch.

Chalk markers worked well on the pumpkins and left vibrant, contrasting marks.

The children were really engaged in this activity and it was low cost as each pumpkin was less than $1. Since we didn't carve them, they can be enjoyed a fairly long time. Happy Halloween!
