Child Nutrition: They Take Their Lead From You

If you want your kids to eat fruits and vegetables you need to eat them too!
Multiple research studies have shown that when caregivers eat fruits and vegetables in the presence of children and show enjoyment eating them, the children's intake of fruits and vegetables increases (1)(2). Be a good role model by preparing and enjoying fruits and vegetable with your meals and snacks- and offering them to your child. Keep your approach low key though....research studies also show that pressuring or coercing children to eat fruits and vegetables results in children developing a negative attitude around that particular food (3). Children need plenty of time and positive experiences to allow them to experience and learn about new foods; give them the time and opportunity.
