Deep Cuts for Child Care- Signed Budget

California's Governor Brown signed the California State Budget released on June 28, 2012. Cuts to the Child System are significant. In the end, cuts to the child care system for the 2012/2013 fiscal year total $130 million.
Included in this amount is the loss of an estimated 26,500 subsidized child care slots, $30 million from Title 5 preschool centers that contract with the State Department of Education, $10 million from the Child Nutrition Program which would reimburse private schools and centers serving children nutritious meals.
