Spelling holiday words with yarn is a great sensory, prewriting activity.
Increase your child's involvement by letting your child choose which holiday word they would like to spell out.
After this project is complete your child can practice tracing her fingers over the letters.
You will need:
index cards or stock card paper cut into 3x5 or 4x6 rectangles
pencil, pen, or marker
glue
yarn
scissors
hole punch
- Write the letters on the index cards.
- Help your child by holding the yarn in place and measuring the amounts you will need for each letter segment. Your child can help cut the yarn if you show them where to cut.
- If your child is able have them apply glue following the letter lines.
- Press the pre-cut yarn on the cards. When all letters have been completed, hole punch in each of the top corners and lace yarn through to create a garland.
