Upcycle a plastic bottle into a colorful windsock.
This activity is courtesy of a local non-profit organization in Alpine County-
Alpine Kids.
You will need:
an empty plastic bottle
a 1/8" hole punch or awl
scissors
12 lengths of ribbon
2 strings cut 28-30 inches long
fishing clasp, s-hook, or paperclip
Begin by cutting the top and bottom off of the plastic bottle.
Alpine Kids cut theirs about 5-6 inches high.
Punch 4 evenly distributed holes on top and 12 evenly distributed holes on the bottom portion.
Fold your long strings in half and loop through your fishing clasp, s-hook or paperclip extended into an "S" shape. Tie both strands together in a knot below the clasp.
Alpine Kids used nylon twine and needed to burn the ends to keep them from unraveling. Using cotton cord or polyester yarn would eliminate this step.

Tie each of the 4 ends through one of the top holes, tying to top edge.
Alpine kids had this piece set up prior to the event.
Now for the FUN!
Adding the ribbons....
Insert the ribbon from the outside- in and knot on the inside.
Inserting the pointed end, and pulling through makes this task easier.
The 1/8" hole punch helps keep the ribbons secure since it is smaller than the knot.
Needless to say- this is a great fine motor activity.
The kids really loved these!
