Sensory Balloons

This is a rich activity for younger children- involving sensory, colors, and fine motor skills.
This project involves balloons and some small objects, so adult supervision is necessary. Besides the safety issues, adults can help with sensory exploration by asking questions to enrich the learning experience.

We filled 5 balloons with different items. We put the items in different color balloons, which can also help with color identification during the activity.

We squeezed and investigated the sensory balloons.
Then we had our young child guess what was in each balloon.
Our investigator then used scissors to open the balloons to see what was inside.

The great thing about this project is that you can use whatever you have on-hand to fill the balloons. However, we highly recommend using shaving cream. It bounces just like a ball when it is filled and squirts out shaving cream like silly string with just a slight cut in the balloon.
Enjoy!
