Kind Words

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. In Alpine County the Child Abuse Prevention Council created a collaborative campaign and activity to use at the various events scheduled in our community in April.

The idea behind our messaging is sharing kind words with one another to strengthen the relationship and improve children's social and emotional development. We ordered framed chalkboards in bulk which averaged about $1 per chalkboard. They are roughly 7" x 5". We purchased stencils for about $3 and painted the phrase "KIND WORDS" on the top of each frame. Our agency in coordination with Alpine Kids and Tahoe Youth & Family Services brought this activity to The Rainbow Awards- an awards ceremony honoring people who "Make Rainbows in the Live of Children" in Alpine County.

Children and adults were encouraged to personalize their frame and write positive messages on the chalkboard surface.

On the back of the boards we attached this document we designed and had printed for this activity. The content of this postcard was taken from Dr. Gerald Newmark's work related to the five critical emotional needs of children. We have provided copies of this document.    pdf     jpeg
Please feel free to share.

Keep the kind words coming and strengthen your relationships!
