Year of the Dog: Origami Dogs & Dog Valentines

This week at play group we celebrated 2 holidays- Valentine's Day & Chinese New Year (Year of the Dog).

The first activity was a dog valentine made out of hearts.....
We prepped the activity by cutting out pink and red hearts from standard-sized construction paper. We made them as large as the paper allowed. Additionally, we cut out smaller black and white hearts, as well as offering googly eyes, markers and paint. You will also need scissors and glue.
The dog valentine is composed of two large hearts. Cut one in half to create the ears. We also curved the edge a bit on the lower side of the ears along the curve. The face heart will be upside down and the ears attached on either side of the pointed end of the heart.
Attach the ears to the glue and flip over....
Decorate your valentine however you like.
To make the origami dogs you will need a 6" x 6" sheet of paper. We just trimmed regular letter paper to create paper squares.
Fold your paper diagonally.
Fold your triangle in the middle along the longest side.
Fold down both corners to form ears. Try to space them equally from the center fold.
Fold up both layers of the bottom corner.
Optional- we glued the ears and face down.
Then draw on eyes, nose, whiskers, spots....whatever you like!
