We tried a number of ways to help the children mix their paint into a green shade. First we supplied them with yellow and blue liquid watercolors and provided pipettes. This was a great fine motor activity.
Later, when we ran out of yellow and blue watercolors, we just watered down some tempera paint and offered a small foam paintbrush. This method worked pretty well as the dipping and transferring easily created a bright green shade.
The other option was to provide a small palette of undiluted yellow and blue tempera paint.
This produced great results as well.
The painted paper curled up naturally, creating a 3-D effect on the paper.
Then we glued the hearts to form a lucky clover and drew on a stem.
Slainte!
