Paper Doily Santas

At playgroup today we enjoyed cutting and gluing to make a festive Santa Claus picture. This activity was inspired by The Art Teacher's Closet- Geometric Santas.
Smaller 4-1/2 inch doilies made great whiskers for smaller Santas, fitting perfectly on a card.

While the original art was created with Kindergarten students, with help from their moms and aunties, our preschool aged children at playgroup were successful with this activity.

You will need:
red, green, white, black and flesh colored paper(s)
glue
scissors
8" round paper doilies
white paint & q-tips (optional)

Cut the red paper into a triangle and glue onto green paper.
Glue on the doily.
Cut a circle the size of the center of the doily. (We cut the edging off one of the doilies to use as a template for tracing. )
Cut and glue eyes, nose, mustache and even buttons.
Our group cut one of the small circles from a doily and used it as the pom-pom on top of the hat.
Paint snow flakes by dobbing white paint with a q-tip if you would like to create a snowy backdrop.

We also had a different Santa created using the leftover isosceles red triangle.
The moms and aunties also enjoyed making Peppermint Foot Soak for gifts (or themselves!)
We used a recipe from Suburban Simplicity and it was incredibly easy.
A past year holiday card, traced the size of the jar lid made a beautiful decorative finish, using glue dots to adhere the card and ensure easy removal and reuse of the lid.

1/2 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup epsom salt
2 Tablespoons peppermint tea
10 drops of peppermint essential oil

The above recipe made two, 8 ounce jars. Four ounces will create one food soak in a basin of warm water.
