Woven Pipe Cleaner Bookmarks

Pipe cleaners can be an easier weaving medium than yarn for children because they stay in place more easily than yarn and create their own sort of weaving frame.

You will need:
about a dozen pipe cleaners
optional: scotch tape and painters tape

Determine how wide you would like your book mark. Tie and space your chosen number of pipe cleaners vertically twisting onto a horizontal pipe cleaner.

Fuzzier pipe cleaners will be easier for younger children to work with. Also selecting one color for the vertical strands and only one color for the horizontal strands can also make it easier for younger children to follow the pattern of over, under and around, etc.

Taping between the top of the vertical rows will help the project stay in place and make it easier for children to work with.

Keep adding your horizontal pipe cleaners by twisting the ends of two together when you begin running out of horizontal pipe cleaner.

Placing painters tape on either side of the project will help children keep the bookmark relatively the same width from top to bottom.

Keep weaving around, under, over, around, under over, around....
