Votive Snowman Ornaments

This activity comes courtesy of Tahoe Youth & Family Services (TYFS), Mentor Coordinator Betty Hathaway. This project was enjoyed by several school-aged children and their mentors at a TYFS Holiday Arts & Crafts session.

christmas crafts for kids, ornament crafts for kids, snowman crafts for kids.

For this project you will need:
white card stock
LED votive candles
hot glue gun
scissors
tiny hole punch
string
various decorations...they used permanent marker, glitter glue, googly eyes in various sizes, gold ric rac, felt, glitter star stickers, glitter foam stickers, pipe cleaners, buttons.
Betty suggested offering cotton balls with the decorations as pulled cotton would also give these snowmen texture.

Begin by cutting two circles, one larger than the other.
In this activity Betty cut circles at 3-3/4 across and one about 3-1/4" across.

You will need to cut a hole in each circle to allow access to the on/off switch.
Betty bent the circle and cut a a small piece from each circle midway between the top and middle of the circle.

Apply hot glue to the back of the candle, being sure to position the on/off switch in the access hole. Also be sure to punch a small hole in the top of the snowman, above the votive and loop some string through it to enable your snowman to hang charmingly upon your tree.

Decorate your snowman!

Here are some of the creative designs the children and their mentors created.......

This artist used a smaller circle for a face, giving his snowman more depth.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
