Golden Turmeric Play Dough

Adding turmeric to your play dough recipe instead of yellow food coloring creates a rich golden color with more depth.

Begin by making your play dough. We added 2 cups of water and 2 Tablespoons oil to a saucepan. In a bowl we added 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar and 4 teaspoons of turmeric. We mixed the dry ingredients evenly, added dry ingredients to saucepan and cooked slowly over medium low heat until it had set up.
It had a nice earthy smell of mustard but without the sharp smell of vinegar.
Fearing the pigment might transfer, we worked with the play dough on parchment paper.
The parchment paper and our hands were slightly "yellowed" but washed off easily.

Roll out your dough with a rolling pin.
Use a circle cutter. We used one smooth and one scalloped cutter.
Sprinkle your gold coins with gold glitter and gold star confetti.

When you are done sprinkling your coins, you can mix the glitter and confetti into your dough.
You can make new coins.

This was a huge hit with a child who always "passes" on play dough but loves treasure and pirates.

Make some gold turmeric coins to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!
