Hibiscus & Rosehips Play Dough

herbal tea playdough
While enjoying a deep red, aromatic cup of tea we wondered if we could extend this experience into a sensory activity for children. Although Hibiscus & Rosehips are the main ingredient to add color to this play dough, the tea we used also contains other fragrant herbs & spices (chicory, chamomile,  roasted carob, natural plum, cinnamon, ginger and cardamom).

The tea we used is seasonal but any tea with hibiscus and/or rosehips would work well for color. Any added herbs and spices will add to the sensory experience by adding a festive aroma.

We steeped two bags of tea into one cup of boiling water. Use more tea bags if you want a deeper color. Ours made a beautiful, pastel pink.

We added one cup of tea (steeped with two tea bags) to 2 Tablespoons of oil, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar, 1 cup salt and 2 cups of flour in a saucepan over medium-low heat.

Our play dough had a great aroma and soft color- perfect for spring.
