Giant Paper Airplanes

We brought this activity to Storytime in the Park at the Markleeville Library, Saturday June 6th and want to thank Fireflies and Mudpies for the great idea! Some of the kids or their parents knew how to make a paper airplane and used their own designs. Some of the kids needed help and followed the instructions we had as well as our help. Some children tried their own original designs. Some worked and others needed modifications as they went along. Although the pink one below didn't fly very far, it flew in one backwards loop and then landed every time. Be sure to buy a few extra poster board so kids can experiment on their own as well.

We bought plenty of poster board from our local dollar store. They are lightweight and inexpensive and come in an array of fun, bright colors for $.50-$.69 each.

We began be testing the construction of our giant airplane in the office to make sure we could pull it off for a crowd.

The same folding technique is used for making a paper airplane from a standard sheet of paper so if you know how to make an airplane you are all set to go. If you need a little help we can walk you through the process.

At the event one older child showed us his way of making an airplane that created another winner!

For another paper airplane design visit our post High Flying Paper Airplane.

Besides making airplanes...you can make giant ninja stars, cootie catchers, origami butterflies or any other folded paper creation you want to super-size.
