This week at our Homemade Holidays workshop we made hand warmers and God's Eyes.
Since we had a number of children come at the same time last week, we set out materials for God's Eyes in case we had a back-up with the hand warmers which require adult help. We won't get into the instructions for God's Eyes in this post though, but it is a low cost, relaxing activity even the parents enjoyed and allowed the children to have a more hands-on experience.
If you don't have a sewing machine, you can use hem tape and an iron to seal the seams.
You will need:
Sewing machine or hem tape and iron
5" fabric squares (or a size close to this)
Muslin (or any kind of fabric, you could use even more of the printed, pre-cut)
Rice
We prepped for this activity by purchasing 5" square fabric stacks at our local fabric store. We also cut some leftover muslin we had into 5" squares as well. We sewed the muslin on 3 sides so the children could scoop the rice in.
We downloaded beautiful instruction cards from Love, Pomegranate House.
Depending on how the children filled the squares, we sealed the rice inside with a seam. Then the children chose 4 squares of fabric and arrange 2 of them for each pocket. We helped the children by sewing 3 seams to create to slip pockets for their square filled rice bags.
Heat 30-60 seconds in the microwave and enjoy the warmth :)
