This week for playgroup we offered pink and red papers and other items along with scissors and craft punches to create a heart collage for Valentine's Day.
This activity was inspired by a mixed media art project gifted to us as a gift from a client's child who is creative, original and energetic young person. The artist glued the items onto a piece of torn cardboard allowing the art to be displayed without a frame.
Well, since hearts can't be balanced (paper hearts that is)...we used thick multimedia art paper for this project.
A word of warning though...cut the hearts smaller than larger since it will take a great deal of cutting and gluing to cover the surface of the heart.
Our large heart measured around 12" and the small heart 6"- which was half the space to cover.
You may also consider starting with a red or pink heart so the amount of white space being covered isn't as important.
This activity allowed the children to work on their scissor skills. Children can also tear pieces of paper to increase small motor strength. Our craft punches are popular so we provided them as well.
Happy Valentine's Day!
