Painting with Celery

celery prints, celery flowers

Painting with celery is a great way to use something you already have and might not even plan on using- like the end of the celery bunch and the inner stalks.

When using the inner celery as a paintbrush, remove the inner stalks just before use so the "bristle" leaves are stiff.

When using the end of the celery bunch, be sure to cut a level slice. If it is cut at an angle, getting the entire surface to print will be difficult. Also setting the cut side down on a towel overnight will help absorb some of the moisture that may dilute the paint. Celery is a water rich vegetable!

Now you have a great way to use the "leftover" portion of the celery bunch in your fridge from your holiday stuffing, winter soups, and summer salads. The flower prints make great cards and gift wrap!

You can use the end of other vegetables too!
Here's what we did with the end of a Napa cabbage head
