Collaborative Kids Art Project

Warning: Be sure the original artist is comfortable having something added to their art piece. If you are unsure- draw the added piece on another piece of paper, cut and attach with a small piece of tape so it can be removed if necessary.

This art activty is great for siblings or mixed ages in child care.
In the following photos, a younger child with prerepresentational skills painted with one or two paint colors. Notice that even by using only one color, they still present very differently from each other. The differences allow the older child to visualize something in the painting and add to it.

The representational drawing was added by an older sibling. In this case, the younger artist was no longer attached to the artwork after he decided he had completed the piece and was quite pleased with the additions to his artwork.
