Double Sensory Bubble Gum Playdough

Do you remember bubble gum ice cream?
Mmm. What oral motor skills it took to eat ice cream while collecting and chewing gum.
This activity it reminiscent of that delicious childhood memory.

We used Frosting Creations- a stir-in product we bought at our local grocery store for 50 cents.

Mix it in with the ingredients from your favorite playdough recipe. This packet has the color and scent combinded.

Our playdough recipe is:
  • Mix 2 cups water, 2 Tablespoons oil and Frosting Creations packet in a medium saucepan.
  • In a bowl mix 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt and 1 teaspoon cream of tartar.
  • Add dry ingredients to pan.
  • Stir and cook over medium heat until dough begins pulling away from the sides of the pan.

For an added sensory experience we added treasures.

Mixing treasures in provides an additional level of interest for children- especially those who aren't overtly interested in play dough.

Bonus circle time activity:

Introduce a theraband. One for the group will be plenty. These therabands came in a set of 3. Use the one with the least resistance. In this case, it is the red/pink one.

proprioceptive activities for kids, theraband activities, bubble gum songThe teacher holds one end of the theraband and sings....

Icky sticky bubble gum, icky sticky gum
Icky sticky bubble gum, stuck on ________

(Choose a child's name and toss them the other end of the band.)

And we pull it off. And we pull it off.

(Both the adult and child pull on the band)
Eventually the band will snap on one end.

Test the snap on your band before you try this out with kids.
The snap should be painless- if not look for another band.

This activity is a great proprioceptive activity which helps with sensory organization.
