This is a great way to create a seasonal lacing activity- and great for strengthing the pincer grasp.
When this project is completed- children can continue to use the spider web to practice lacing and unlacing.
You will need:
1-2 sturdy paper plates
a hole punch
glue
black paint
paintbrush
4 plastic beading needles or heavy tape
white yarn
How to make:
Cut the center out of each plate. If you prefer, use only one plate.
We used 2 to make an extra sturdy ring.
If you use 2 plates, glue the them together to form a one ring.
Paint the ring black and allow time to dry.
Hole punch the edge of the ring every inch or so.
Cut 4 lengths of yarn.
Tie each piece of yarn onto the plastic needle.
If you can't find plastic needles, wrap some tape on the end.
Tie the strings at 12-3-6-9 o'clock.
Have fun lacing!
Below is another web we made at a playgroup session. We simplified the activity by using only one thread and made a "needle" by wrapping the tip of the yarn with masking tape.
We also helped make spiders by cutting a pipe cleaner into four pieces and twisting in the center to form eight legs. Hot glue (adults- of course) the legs onto a black pom pom. If you like, add a gem to the top with hot glue as well.
